In 2009, a little Nekkoru thought of a fucking brilliant idea - to bolster his own gaming skills by re-living the history of video games, starting in 1980 and working up slowly.
The rules
The rules are simple. Nekkoru will be playing all major releases of a year and will not advance until beating at least one game.
Minor rules include no cheating, unless you found the cheat yourself (this, for example, includes the Warp Zones in Super Mario Brothers). Warps/passwords are allowed, if you found them out.
The games
Year | Games played | Games beaten |
---|---|---|
1980 | Zork (PC), Berzerk, Pac-Man (Arcade) | Zork (the only game I played that can be beaten) |
1981 | Ultima (PC), Wizardry (PC), Ms. Pac-man, Frogger, Donkey Kong (Arcade) | Donkey Kong (later, I also finished Ultima) |
1982 | Xevious, Q-Bert, Zaxxon (Arcade), ET (Atari 2600), Ultima 2 (PC) | Ultima 2 |
1983 | Ultima 3 (PC), Manic Miner (ZX Spectrum), Gyruss, Star Wars (Arcade) | Ultima 3 ( I seem to have a fondness for these games...) |
1984 | King's Quest (PC), Gauntlet (Atari 800) [NOT the hack'n'slash!] | King's Quest, since the other doesn't have an ending. |
1985 | Kung-Fu, Ice Climber, Super Mario Bros. (NES), Gauntlet (Arcade) [The hack'n'slash.], Jet Set Willy (ZX Spectrum) | Super Mario Bros. |
1986 | Ghosts'n'Goblins, Gradius, Kid Icarus, Metroid (NES) | N/A |
