Mortal Kombat is the first game in the Mortal Kombat Series.

It is one of the most controversial games of all time and was one of two titles that most directly caused the creation of the ESRB.

The other game was the Digital Pictures game Night Trap.

Mortal Kombat actors Daniel Pesina (Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero) and Carlos Pesina (Raiden) appear in forum member DarkMaze's film Press Start as Sasori and Lei Gong, respectively. Notably, "Sasori" is Japanese for "Scorpion" and Lei Gong is the name of the Chinese god of thunder.

Gameplay

Two people fight like any other fighting game, but in this you button mash a lot - that is, if you suck and can't remember moves, techniques and combos.

Quotes

MOOOOOOOOORTAL KOMBAT!

- Syd Lexia

Mortal Kombat was better than Street Fighter. This not only describes the category of video games, but also film adaptations of video games. However, Mortal Kombat II: Annihilation, and the Street Fighter movie are both among the worst movies of all time.

Digitized Sprites are an acquired taste. I prefer the look and feel of hand drawn characters in a one on one fighting game. Mortal Kombat was a good game in the arcades. I remember when people would line up to play that one kid, you know... the one who knew all the moves for one character and just kept playing for hours on end with the two quarters he got back after breaking a dollar at the snack bar on a can of soda. Fuck you greeneyedzeke, I know you were that guy. Maybe not to me, but to others. You bastard.

Yes, when I used to go to arcades machines only took 1 quarter and a Coke was 50 cents.
