The Second Singer Effect is what takes place when a replacement singer takes their respective band to a new degree of fame not reached by their preceeder.

Notable Second Singers

  • Brian Johnson in AC/DC
  • Sammy Hagar in Van Halen- brought the band to a commercial height, though less beloved to fans than David Lee Roth.
  • Ronnie James Dio in Black Sabbath- has as big a following as Ozzy did in the band.
    • EDIT: Has fans as rabid as Ozzy-era fans.
  • Bruce Dickenson in Iron Maiden.
  • David Gilmour in Pink Floyd.-technically not a lead singer, but the band had far more success with him than with Syd Barrett.
